Dec 14 1944 issue Scio Tribune Leonard Lulay Killed in Action in France

Leonard Francis Lulay, son of Mr. and Mrs. N. R. (Nick) Lulay was killed in action in France, November 15 according to notification from the War Department early this week following by three days the word he had beenmseriously injured. Leonard was a radio operator, Tech 5, with a tank

destroyer batallion.

He was born June 6 1920 at Bakertown, Penn, and came to Oregon at the age of three months. He attended St. Boniface school at Sublimity and graduated from Aumsville high school in 1938. While his parents home has been at Sublimity, he has been here at Scio a good deal, at the Lulay Bros Lumber Co. locations, working in loading operations at the West Scio planing mill, and also as a logging truck driver from the woods and the Lulay mill southeast of town.

He entered the service Feb 23, 1942. He trained at Camp Roberts and Fort Ord, Calif., Camp Pickett, Va., and Camp Hood, Texas. After leaving Texas he was on maneuvers in Mississippi and Louisiana. Tech Lulay was home on furlough in Dec of 1943. Surviving besides the parents are three sisters, Mrs. Annie Mackie, Mrs. Camilla Butler and Velma Lulay of Sublimity, two brothers, Lt. Orville Lulay of the U.S. Army air corps and Bernard Lulay of Sublimity and a niece, Karen Anne Mackie.
