Fred Keene Brown was born 9/4/24 in Monroe Co., KY. He was drafted into the army April 12, 1943, at Louisville, KY and entered active duty at Camp Atterbury, IN. He received basic training at Camp Polk, LA. He was sent to the European Theater to France July 22, 1944, and was wounded in the vicinity of Leyville, France, on Nov. 25, 1944, by shrapnel in the left arm and shoulder. He was taken to the evacuation hospital, diagnosed and treated, but died Nov. 27, 1944, from shock caused by these wounds. Burial was in the U.S. :Military cemetery in Limey, France. After the war, his body was exhumed and returned to Gamaliel Cemetery. He was only 20 years old at the time of his death.
