T/5 Dan F. Reese who was killed in action in Germany on April 16, 1945, while serving with the Medical Corps. Reese was fatally wounded ont htat date while trrying to administer first aid to his buddy, John Hebert of Louisiana.

The Bronze Star Medal was awarded for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on January 13, 1945. On that date T/5 Reese drove his vehicle, despite withering small arms fire, into an open field and evacuated two seriously wounded comrades. The Silver Star Medal was awarded to T/5 Reese for his conduct at that time and the citation accompanying the medal lauds him as follows: "For gallentry in action in the vincity of Schweikershain, Germany, on April 16, 1945. With another medical aid man, he was driving back from an advance column to reconnoiter the shortest route to the aid station when he was ambushed by enemy riflemen. His compagnion was hit, and T/5 Reese chose to stop and treat his friend despite to enemy fire. As he turned to five first aid, he himself was mortally wounded. His conduct is in keeping with the dignity and traditions of the Medical Corps and is worthy of highest tribue."
